*finished-Lizardman walk-animation [C&C]

on: November 29, 2006, 06:24:50 pm
yus, just felt like doing this (oooh and it felt good :mean:)

It's a walking-animation of a lizardman but before I colour it I need C&C on the animation itself, how is the motion. Are the arms moving in a correct way etc...

Strip:

thanks ;)

-edit, haha just noticed how the hands slapped back to the ground, gonna change that in a minute :hehe: *changed*

The way that his arms are animating, the way they're hitting the ground, is off.

Maybe there needs to be more followthrough when they swing back? Is he actually pushing up with his arms, like a gorilla, or are they supposed to just be swinging? Right now, it looks like an animation of your character walking backwards. The arms just seem odd in general - are the elbow joints supposed to be reversed? Are they tentacles?

Everything else looks great.. the head bobbing side to side as he walks looks perfect.

thanks Akzidenz, I worked on it and I guess its still not right but it took me a long time to figure out how a gorilla/hunched creature walks.

are you moving the hands and arms in synch on purpose?

just asked cos they usually swing opposite one another...?

i.e left hand forward left foot back... right foot forward right arm back?

haha yeah I know, it's kinda difficult to figure it out. Normally the hands stay on ground when moving like that, but when let's say the right legs moves forward, the right arms moves forward too. That's how I experimented it

If you're going for a gorilla type walk, it never hurts to look up some references.

Here's a nice (but short) video:

just a thought Killedbysuicide...
remember what I said about secondary motion?
you could apply it to the hands? (I've done a quick fudge just to show you what it could do?)
try it - ignore it... your call... other than that your good to rock!

take it easy chaps... my time to call it quits... I'm off for the night... l8rs!

That was just what I was aiming for in the first post but it failed because the arms were animated wrong!  ;D Thanks Bacca for this reminder must've forgotten it in the new version :-[

AlienQuark & Akzidenz thanks for the comments, Gonna colour it right....now ;)

thanks Hidden Killer, it's finished now! The head and the second movement gave me some real trouble, so I did not add the second movement and I have the same basic-head in each frame..
Again IMO it looks better at 2× zoom:

The coloring makes the positions of the arms and legs a bit confusing, and it's especially bad when the leg and hands overlap, if you knock out the highlight on the leg, and pull the arm a bit closer by lighting it up a bit, it might look better. Perhaps try lighter outlines on the closer parts, and darker outlines on the further ones also. Nice work so far!

Try upping the contrast on this guy- and eliminating at least some of the highlight colour.  :y:

I think you should hunch him over more, so there's more horizontal space between his arms and legs, which would give more room to interpret the movement of each limb. That'd be a lot of tedious work, given you'd have to rework every frame :\

I don't exactly get that since for me there are no highlights colours, and if you mean the bright greenish colour I don't really see why I should remove it, could you maybe explain it more?

@Blick: That was the problem that I had with the arms, that they overlapped the legs. In the uncoloured version it looked already pretty hunched to me so I did not see it but I get your point. Although I am not gonna change it because that means indeed changing every frame. Still there's a red lizard dude I want to make for the mockup, I can make him hunched more though. Thanks for pointing me out :y:

Nontheless here's a slightly edit:

The head bobbing is great, and the tounge coming out is a very nice feature.
I think the palette is wonderful, and the animation is superb.

haha, no no, it's no hair or either spikes, those are supposed to be feathers attached with a rope to the left side of the lizard :-[

I realised how small it is at the end :o haha

Thank you Skull for liking it :D
