For a start I think the shadows could use more hue to imply those coiled brain-like corals, we are used to see them immersed in cyan diffuse light. Also, great idea.

Ah, now that you mentioned I remember browsing his stuff, they all have that cute aa on those organic things, and you emulated that well. I thinks his works are less 3d, your take show more volume, the coils show more depth. He is doing it more symbolically, like charcoal drawings on a plain surface, while you are doing it in three dimensions which is actually a good blend of styles as you are not aiming to just perfectly emulate oceanscented's hand.
