zombies man ... they freak me out

on: November 26, 2006, 10:09:33 pm
So I have this work in progress that I would like to share at this stage :)

Don't mind the fact that there are zombies to the left of the hero.
In the final scene it's going to be rearranged so that all zombies are to the right of the hero, staggering towards him

C+C, Edits and all that very much welcome.

Here is the wip in stages up till now.

The one directly to the left of the hero has no blood on his face! That's disgraceful. Heh...his face really does bug me a little, maybe because his head seems a little more detailed than the others, it seems to show more obvious features. I don't really know, but that's what sticks out to me. Otherwise it's great.
I.....am......me............

I think the far right zombie's head should be away from the camera.  The bat is hitting him on his left side, his head would go the other way.

It's lookin' good though.  I'd like to see some sort of background. (not creepy enough on the forums bland colours. Heh.)  ;D

The hero's awesome. are the calves of different lengths?
The zombie being hit has really short, wide legs.
The first zombie is in mid fall? It would be just about impossible for someone to recover from that stance. His legs are also really weird.  His upper body is pretty great, though.
The second one is cool. Seems a bit bicepy for a zombie. His pants aren't as detailed as the last two, so I assume it's not done yet? Extremely short far arm and lack of an elbow, too.
The third... Not as good as the others, methinks. Dunno why though.

tweaked a few things, most noticably the direction of the head being hit.
made the sluggers backleg slightly shorter (it did appear to be to long)
some colortweak to the 3rd zombie whom everyone appears to think doesn't fit in
(not only you guys)

also added in some reference to zombiemovies which I'm going to incorporate into the environment

oh and no unfortunately I don't Dead Rising at all  :'( I so wish I could play that game,
but I just can't justify buying the x360 + that game right now .... oh well maybe in the future

The way the dude is swinging his bat doesn't match up with the way the zombies face is facing. If the dude swung from right to left, the zombie's head should be at a hard left angle.

But otherwise, I love it! Nice job.

OT: dead rising is nothing compared to some other 360 games.  quite fun - just a bit boring and repetiitive.

nice work - i really like the guy on the far right.

On the second zombies back there seems to be some pixels that shouldn't be there. Looks like you were going to have the
arm going back then changed it but forgot to remove the sleeve. The third zombie maybe should have an eye or some blood in its
eye socket. It looks at the moment like the face is all dried up or something and that doesn't fit with the amount of blood coming out
of the waist. Nice pose for the batter.

Those pixels on the back (assuming you mean the ones near his neck) are supposed to be a hood from his sweater ...
As for the crawling one, I see where you're coming from.
I'll think about how to solve that as i really do like how his face is right now.
Apart from that, the stuff coming out the back are supposed to be largely intestines rather that large amounts of blood.

so, time for another update. I positioned them in the correct order (about time)
I also started the environment which is still VERY rough mind you, but it gives an idea about the direction I'm thinking of heading.

Looking very nice, I like the crawling guy before but the red on the mouth seems too much like lipstick then blood.  Maybe add some rips on the back of his clothes instead of adding blood to the face.  Also to me it just screams firehydrant behind the hero.  Not really sure why maybe just as a balance but it seems to need something with how packed the right is and a fire hydrant would work on a street.  (so would a lamp though)

good comments, was kinda thinking the same about the blood on the crawler ... will most likely remove that in the next edit.

firehydrant is a great idea, will see what I can do about that, my own Idea was indeed a lamppost ...

It is coming along very nicely.  Great job on the clothing folds and basic zombie anatomy.  It think you could get rid of the shadow on the poster/notice; right now it looks like its out the same level as the zombies, when it should seem farther back and against the wall.  I agree with ep on the lipstick thing; maybe make it dripping more.  Good luck on the trees and shrubbery in the background.  I can't wait to see what this will look like when it is done.
