[WIP] Problem with background

on: March 13, 2018, 01:39:27 pm
Hi guys! I wanted to remake this painting in pixelart, but this background looks rather bad. I tried using dithering, but it didn't look any better. Do you have any idea how to improve it without adding more colors?

The strokes in the original background have a sense of flow and motion to them, and that's what's missing from your pixel version. You don't have the luxury of individual brushstrokes and visible bristles, but you can use repeating shapes and angles instead.

Okay, maybe this one is better? Simpler and less noisy in the background?

Yeah, it is better.

But separate more the girl's hair from the mane.

Darkest bg color doesn't read, esp on the tail. You might have to redo that. Original pic the blacks are all in the upper right, don't see that here.
