[Feedback] Idle and Shooting Animation

on: March 06, 2018, 01:40:38 pm
Hi! After putting it off for a long time, I decided to try doing animated pixel art. Here are animated idle and shooting sprites respectively:

Working on these has brought up a lot of questions, and I'd like to hear your thoughts on them:
1) On a sprite of this scale, or even smaller, how does one go about making more subtle movements where moving it 1 pixel is too much? I feel like it makes the animation look weird and jumpy.
2) I started out with completed still sprites for both of these, but I've seen others cut their sprites in to pieces (left leg, left arm, right arm, head, etc.) Does that make things easier to animate?
3) How do you animate more complicated parts like hair? As you can see, I took the lazy route of just animating pieces at the ends...

Other than these questions, I'd love to hear all your feedback and criticism!

for the bob his knees are kinda just crunching into himself, try to animate the whole leg for that. alternatively, have the bombing motion that come from him rolling back and forth on his feet
