[WIP] Hut

this is for a game i want to make...
i dont really know how to do the roof...

could you give me some tipps?
and please crit the wood texture aswell

Ahh right. Its a big piece! You've got a nice start. I think the peak of the roof could be off centre though, might need to be shifted up more. Approach the roof just like everything else, consider how the lightsource is shining on it and shade accordinly. It seems to be the light is coming almost from direct above-left (straight in terms of the X axis, if we regard the X axis as <----->).

Umm, it seems kind of tricky, doesnt it? I get the instinct to tell you to make the side of the roof tapering away from the viewer darker than the one facing the viewer. It just basically needs some shade to help define the form. I'm pretty sure that even flat planes have a slight gradient of shade to them. The "lowest" edges of the slopes should be slightly darker, im pretty sure, as should the rightmost edges. It depends on the nature of the material, which I'm assuming is that straw kind of roof...cant remember the actual name for it.

Oh which brings me to the other point; give it some texture. As for the wood...it looks quite plastic, due the kind of smooth edges, the uniformity and the slight shininess youve given it.

The left most and right most sections need texturing, also.

And what kind of game is it, btw?

Hey, that looks like it has potential!

It took me some time to realize that this was a shot from above. At first, I thought it was just a sideview of the house. You could make it more obvious by:

- The way how you make the wooden frame above the door pop out - make it pop out more.
- Making the house darker as it gets closer to the ground (our brains always think of something that is lighter closer, so if the top of the house is lighter than the bottom, it will look more like it's being viewed from an angle.

The wood texture looks very nice, but I see you haven't applied it to the two poles on each side of the house. To add some variety, maybe you could make those, and the doorframe, in a darker wood?

I like the wood texture. But the two sides of the house look a little bare after all the texture on the other boards. The way you have your straw is wrong..you put straw on a house so it is up and down not side to side if you understand what I mean. Other than the roof its a very nice work  :y:

I like the wood texture - very neat. I think the perspective is off but maybe you could post one of the sprites from your game
to make it easier to see if perspective works?
