looking for feedback on this sprite:

do you think this is too small to be using dithering?

IMO

It depends on the work's artstyle

×if it is like a children's drawing then id say a pattern would do the job instead of shading

×if it is geometric or abstract like geometry dash or asteroids then my answer is "maybe", if it is a video game then conpare ir to the enviroment to see if it works.

In pixel art sprite of this size usually relies on simulating cell-shading (or at least that is what i do  ) can i ask what is this sprite going to be used on?

i guess i'm just trying to build up a portfolio of stuff.  i haven't thought about how it would work in context.
Your advice is much appreciated.  I should be keeping in mind the setting.  Other than that - is the sprite itself ok - do you think it needs more colors or does the dithering do a good job of giving the sprite shape?

That is a nice improvement from the first image. I wasn't sure if you were using the dithering for shading in the first image.

I like the update!

You might want to consider decreasing the value of the dark pink to match the value of the dark blue. That or lighten the dark blue a bit. So long as they are a closer match, the change from one colour to another will look more natural.

Dude, that's WAY better :D keep the good work, do as Xand0r says and I think is ready, are you planning to animate it?

Xand0r do you mean like keep the mathematical relationship between the original color and shaded color for both the blue and pink?  that's a really good idea.  are there any color calculators out there for analogous relationships like this?  i can figure it out but... hm, that might be something interesting to code.

I think the meant only that your darker pink seems much lighter than your darker blue, not in a mathy way. I will never try to derive calculations for color values to define palettes again. The last time I did it here I ended up with a lot of unusable shades, and got a nice earful from cyangmou on how each hue has its own quirks regarding saturation and value, so instinctive perception of equivalence across hues is the key.
