Learning Pixel animation.

The problem is timing. Things in free fall accelerate, ie. if you have a fixed time step, on each frame the ball should move more than in the previous frame.
Here's an article about bouncing ball, it's in traditional animation (hand-drawn cartoon) but the principles are the same on a computer.

I feel the problem is the fact that the ball looks like a circle the whole time. It hardly seems to be bouncing at all.

This should probably help you. Animations with a lot of movement like this need to have squashing and stretching, the more squash and stretch, the lighter the ball. In your animation the ball doesn't get a different shape at all, only when it hits the floor. This makes it seem like the ball is very heavy, like a bowling ball.
You get in the bowl
