why play games, when you can make games..

I use to be a bit of a gamer, but as most games get more epic and movie like, there's just no time for it.

I enjoy some story/epic/plotdriven games, but Mario is where its at in terms of playability. Dude gets high off shrooms and plants and has some fantasy about princesses and turtles. Play these 8 worlds with 4 levels each. Bam,
How long can the floor creak before it loses its voice?

It takes a great game to get me reinspired back into gaming more than an hour a day/week
The best games I've played that have never let me down are:
Half-Life
Max Payne 1 & 2
GTA 3 & 4

I need to upgrade my computer so I can get back into it as well. I'm really looking forward to playing HL2, GTA5, and DOOM3

I occassionally play 1st person shooters (last being doom3, then HL2), and DS games.
Not much of a gamer after I passed 20. Lost interest in RTS games after Command and Conquer.
If I use the computer, it's just surfing the net, pr0n and maybe some doodle in photoshop if I can muster all my willpower.
I'm looking forward to getting my 24" lcd so I can watch more movies/tv on it and for photoshop.

Pshhhaw, I wouldn't even need to reconnect the N64, cuz' it's already plugged in (With Jet Force Gemini in it)!
Woohoo! That thar's a good time waiting to happen!

I don't play games as much as I'd like, but I'm still hardcore.
Pretty much agree verbatum with Godslayer's last comment.
I never really started playing games till the N64, but when that happened, I was hooked.
I thrived on N64. Ate, slept, breathed it. "Screw the psx," said I "Spyro/Crash ain't got nothing on Mario/Link."
Nintendo all tha way!!!
[/fanboy]

Then I got some SNES roms.
Terranigma, Actraiser, SoM, Zelda 3, Contra, Mario RPG. Those are the games that rocked me hardest.

GTA 4 doesn't exist for more than a year : nov 17 2007
GTA 5 doesn't exist period.

I think you  mean the different storylines built off the GTA3 engine: vice city, san andreas.

San Andreas is by far, the best GTA ever, hands down, nuff said :)

The screenshots for GTA4 look insane and sick, too bad the PS3 is going to bomb.

why play games, when you can make games..

To see what others are doing, be informed on what's going on in the world of games. Might as well live in a cave alone with your computer, make a game for like 3 years and then release it to find out something like that exists since 2 years before you started making it.
There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.

you dont really need to play games to know what is out there, but it helps.
You could easily watch previews or read reviews and stuff like that if you want to be informed.
It's usually quicker that way, so you're left with more time to develop the game.
I also consider playing different than studying, usually when you're playing a game you arent worried to much about how the technical stuff works and such like that.
seriously though.. if you have to play games to make games, you are limiting yourself greatly because what you are playing would then determine what it is you make. If you are trying to make money and do commercial stuff, then being aware of what your competition is helps. And ion most cases, many developers copy what others are doing commercially, because if it is working and making money for them, then others want to get in on it.
