Little animation

on: August 24, 2017, 11:52:15 am
Hi guys. I've decided to do my first animation. What do you think about it. I know that I could add that his head turn right but I couldn't make it look good so I left it.

Bit unclear. I'd have him flick it out to the right a bit then move it to his mouth in a bit of an arc. Creates a better visual flow!

Also, his arm bends a bit unnaturally. Remember to keep things firm from the elbow to wrist and elbow to shoulder!

picture-left, the ones grabbing the cigs seem to bend a bit awkwardly. I think you were going for a more towards-camera thing, but the elbow should stick out a bit while he's rummaging for his smokes.
The new motion looks way more smooth, but it's still a straight line. Remember, it helps to make natural movements by thinking in arcs. It's a handy trick I picked up from one of the many art reference books in my possession, and I refer back to it a lot for my own work!

Well I tried to do those arcs is it ok ?

And I have a question about a head. I don't know how to make his head turn a little not much.

Hm, I'm not sure you got it and now some of the movements are weirdly slow on the first few frames.
What I meant was more leading with the hand, having it move from the box to the left a bit then back up to where his "mouth" would be.

The MOTION on the box grabbing hand is better, but try to fix that frame pacing.

As for the slight turns of the head, try some subpixeling concepts like this:

This isn't the BEST done example on earth, but it showcases the concept. The idea is to use changes in color inside the sprite, rather than the edge or profile of the picture, to create the illusion of smaller movements.
Metal Slug uses this concept to great effect, if you'd like more professional examples of the technique!

What about now ?

I've changed a left arm possition from the box a little bit left + time frame 0.1s except last one is 0.5 s

And here is my edited version of his head move and ty for this one (didn't know how to make it look "not wierd")

Both look good to me. Now just have him breath a bit,  break up how static the body feels

Next edit right here !!!!

I want to ask you again about the color and the shading in this character (is it ok ? or correct)

Of course that the moment when he blows smoke looks weird but in this edit I wanted to show how it could look like
