[WIP][CC]Working with a limited palette

on: June 12, 2017, 05:58:27 pm

I am experimenting with working with a limited color palette these days. I am really intrigued by dawnbringer's 16 color palette, but I feel so restricted with so few colors, yet I have seen people do amazing things with them. I wanted to make a glass ball with a vibrant red liquid inside, and I am not very happy with my initial attempts. I would appreciate some tips on using a limited palette in general, and some help specific to this image.

Try to tweak the surface of the liquid to be more wavy, add some refracted light to the inside ("God rays", as they're sometimes called in games and television), and of course don't rule out some small bubbles in it.

Try some of those and see how they work, I reccomend you rework the surface to be more of that web shape seawater takes for a more visually interesting look than the still flat top.
