[WIP][C+C] Fire emblem Catria

on: June 11, 2017, 10:08:48 am
Hi, this is my first ever attempt at pixel art and I'd appreciate some constructive criticism since I don't really know what I am doing  :) :) . In particular, what way can I improve her hair? (The shading is meant to be from the top left) I used http://www.kawaiihannah.com/pixelart/view/dollbases for the base

Well for starters.... don't use bases. They don't really contribute to your ability to draw new characters and limit you to what others have already made.
Play around with making your own cartoony lil characters and scale up as you progress!
Try starting with something around 32 pixels wide and tall, think in chunks of color for now rather than focusing too much on anatomical stuff. Simple is a good start!

(plus, that base is awful.)
(like really, yowza)
PSA: use imgur

Well, this is a pretty good job so far. And IMO you can't learn all skills at the same time, so using a base lets you postpone questions of anatomy, pose, face pixelling, and focus on the rest.

From looking at reference, the colors are subtle and faithful. The torso armor has the right highlights (classic...) but you've tried to keep too much detail on the hip armor. I've tried to give more volume in the edit below.
