Cant Seem To Get This Right

i cant seem to find anyway to add an attack with his sword, any ideas?

Well, have you tried swinging it? ::)

ive tried that but it looks like his hand is idle and the sowrd goes through his hand

That's kind of how that works in a forward facing animation.   I'd recommend looking at one of the Legend of Zelda games, maybe Four Sword Adventures' sprites.  They have a lot of attacking animations that should help you out a bit.

Also while your at it, maybe make his/her arm with the sword fan out to the side and swing toward your POV(Point of view). That way not only it's human like not like a robot, but so that it's realistic, and maybe he/she flourishes the sword upon swing. Or if they swing they spin around and get Dizzy.
