Walk/Run Cycle Critique

on: March 05, 2017, 09:35:54 pm
Hey Just stared working with animation yesterday and I wanted to give my samurai character movement. Here is what I have done to get him walking, although I know there are some things that look really weird with him.

Any critique would be much appreciated!

Study some gifs of people walking, or even the walk cycles in samurai jack proper! There's a lot wrong here but I think you might get more out of looking at how other people do it than I can provide. There's clips of both reference materials up on youtube, near every samurai jack ep starts with a long walking montage to boot haha

One tip, though: Remember to think in arcs! Nearly everything on the human body moves in a bit of an arc!

As MysteryMeat said, when walking or running your legs swing like a pendulum back and forth. Also try to make his body move with his legs, so not only his arms move, but his shoulders and head as well. This makes him look really 3D.

I made a little edit to show this the pendulum motion.
