My first pixel art character

on: March 04, 2017, 10:06:09 am

I have created this character and intend to start animating him when I ham happy with him. He is an infantryman, wearing traditional gear such as a kettle helm and a gambeson.

So some questions:
  • My limbs feel a little square, how would I fix this?
  • A gambeson is divided into squares, how could I show this?
  • Will I need a higher resolution?
  • Would my character work better at a higher resolution?
  • I'm looking into creating a fighting game, are there any more elements I should consider in my characters design?

Hey, looking good.

I would say at that resolution should be fine as the sprites scaled up but I definitely think it needs more detail when it comes to the clothes. There are more curves on the legs and arms than you have. and so adding that and shading would do wonders. I think this would take care of the square limbs.

I tried to edit it with the details I was talking about, I hope that's OK!

Also having the curvature with the joints should make animating easier as there is more of an outline of where to go.
