Need help! Big surface!

on: January 05, 2017, 09:15:02 pm
So i am working on the following piece:

Dont focus on the grass/stone, the skull is the point.
My question was if someone had any feedback on how to fill in big surfaces like on the skull and make it look good.
Hope someone can help me with this :)

Don't worry about filling space. Instead, concern yourself with conveying the light/form. You can always add details later if you still feel they're needed, but most of the time, they're only distracting.
Might want to add some teeth though, that'll both give you something to pixel, and make the skull feel more complete.

Think about your lightsource. You can't "fill" in the skull if there's no light to be cast to actually bring out anything on the skull. What you have now is referred to as "flat colours", you just have to take the next step now.

Also the left cheekbone for the skull should be something more like this.
