Help with Character Design

So I've been doing pixel art for a while now, but just fancy text, symbols, logos, stuff like that. I can do objects okay as well. But living things are where I really struggle. I just can't do anything that looks remotely alive. Tips?

Just do it. There're no magic tips that'll help you. Do it. Post your attempt. Look at references of art you like if you have to.
