Bouncing Ball animation

on: September 25, 2016, 07:15:47 pm
Hello
I have a bouncing ball animation and I would like critique:

* Ball is supposed to be bouncy
* Objects in the scene react to the impact of the ball when it hits the floor

Thanks!

The background looks good! It would look better if the ball colors stood out over the other objects.
It should recover its form after bouncing (or maybe it's a rugby ball?) and bounce more, it could be a rock with that little bounce at gray colors.

The shelf really bugs me, moving it of one or two pixel and making the vase jump would be okay, but the shelf is fixed to the wall: how could it move like that? The ball could benefit from more deformation during the recovery phase, going from horizontal flatness to vertical before going back to round.

I think the shelf is too static now, so I did a thing:

And here's one where I halved the duration on a couple of the recoil frames!

I feel like you're overusing stretch/squash a little bit here. It's great to emphasize the movement, but the way you're doing it here, you're losing the actual form of the ball. It looks almost more like a rock or a fruit or something else that isn't round. I did a couple quick edits here, but I think you could emphasize the roundness even more to improve this.

The three triangles that pop out when the ball hits the ground are off-putting.

Also, wouldn't it make sense that when the ball collides with the ground would take the most frames? This is when energy is being stretched and the angle of movement of the ball is changing directions.

My approach for this area of the animation would be:
1st Frame ball touching ground.
2nd Frame ball "squishing" downwards, building energy in reverse direction.
3rd Frame ball finally bouncing away from the ground.
Man cannot remake himself without suffering for he is both the marble and the sculptor.
