Skeleton colors [C&C]

on: September 02, 2016, 12:29:36 pm

I made a skeleton, it looks a bit wonky because it needs to fit with my paperdoll system for equipment to be properly animated and I'm fine with that. But I think it looks a bit to green, I want it to look old and dirty but I don't quite get that feeling from this.
Looking at references other than pixelart, how do you guys go about "picking" or extracting a color ramp from that when there are thousands of colors. Is there som average-over-area tool I could use?

Thanx!

There are color ramp services, yes. I usually use this one here: http://www.pixelfor.me/crc/F0000032

As for color choices, old dirty bones tend to get stained more of a yellowish color, like here:
PSA: use imgur
http://pixelation.org/index.php?topic=19838.0 also go suggest on my quest, cmon

haha i use the same one.. but for skeletons you can go pretty crazy . White gray green yellow brown blue they all work.

Depending on the look of the game or project you are working on i would just add more contrast to the skeleton

Wow! That palette chooser looks sweet. Can't wait to play with it—maybe it will make me feel like a real artist  :D
Here to learn pixel art.  Feedback always appreciated.

Thx for the feedback! Posterizer was the tool I was looking for but didn't know the name of to get average colors from source images. I tried it on the part of the image with the human skull and ended up with a color gradient that I then tweaked by hand anyway. This is the result:

Might end up bleaching it some more though, what do you think?
