I'd try to make the feathers like the leaves of this tree:



It would look better and give more depth to the art.

I disagree. Or i should say i think the focus should be on the volume of the thing your trying to portray. Rather then the detail. Forget the texture completely for a moment and see what the birds look like without it. Look at some birds, try to think of them as real animals and how they would look bodily and exist within their surroundings. At the moment you have no coherent light source, or any real sense of what exactly they are or how they move. Get that down then spend some time cleaning up your lines and silhouette.

Also as you mentioned i'd likely start much smaller. Pixeling as a genre is much more manageable when starting at a smaller size. As by the nature of the genre you have to be aware of the specific placement of each pixel, it's easier to do that when you have less of them to keep track of.

Centrarse en volumen retratar. Detalle puede llegar al final. Es decorativa, pero se centran en la estructura. Mira a la naturaleza. pájaros reales. Elija una fuente de luz coherente. Una vez que todo eso esté terminado, limpiar sus líneas y la silueta. Trabajando grande es difícil cuando se inicia.
