[C+C] WIP A tree

on: July 09, 2016, 02:56:06 pm
Hi,

How could I improve the branches (vegetation) of the tree?

It's obviously a work in progress, but honestly I want to know if I'm on the right track or should correct something.

Thanks so much for your help!

It might be effective to define the leaves a bit more, though I wouldn't do too much detail since the overall tone is cute cartoony. I also toned down the highlights a bit - I think it feels a bit more synchronized within the palette.

You could also look through some of the Tree Threads for inspiration.

I perceive 4 shades of green,  but looking at a real tree there is a much wider range of greens.  You can still maintain the cartoony style,  by omitting lines.  Adding more shades of green would make the leaves pop out more, they seem a bit flat as they are.

The level of detail on the trunk is way higher than it is on the foliage, it's definitely worth it to either reduce that to make it jive better or to add more detail to the leaves.

Thank you all,

@0xDB your link was enormously helpful, thanks :)

@Zia, yes, definitely that's the way I'm going to work

@Gragh, thanks, but I would like to keep a few colors in the palette

@MysteryMeat, You're right, I will put more detail on leaves
