[C+C] Deck of Cards : Back Image

on: June 29, 2016, 08:55:52 am
This will be a back for a custom card deck.
I'm not too sure what I should fill in the extra space in the middle with and the white around the border idk what colours to fill in those.

Thanks! Yet I still don't know what to change in those areas.

I like the vintage vibe of that ornamenting on the edges! And I think it being white actually looks good (I feel like its pretty common to have prominent white areas in card designs).

The only thing I'd consider is redrawing the text to match the pixel size of the edge designs (or vice versa). Having two different scales of pixels kind of creates a clash, like you're working on two grids. Just a thought (and it depends on personal style as well)

edit: oh, and agree it could use some kind of centered design element. i recommend googling "playing card designs" and look through for something you like. From what I've seen, you can make a center design out of two mirrored elements (which in your case would mean making some kind of ornamented emblem out of words "Pixel Deck", maybe put them closer together, add some stylization) or you can keep the text where it is, and add some kind of stand-alone ornament directly in the center that matches the style of the edge designs (I'd recommend making the "pixel deck" words smaller if you do go this route just to preserve some of the negative space). Good luck!

+1 nessx007, I had a quick play and thought of 2 possible routes:

(Keep the white, I got rid of it by mistake)

Go full on art nouveau, add swirls and all sorts (I love swirls).
Alternatively, further the pixel element: make some geometric patterns or use the nice elements you have already (this made me want to watch the James Bond Casino Royale so that might provide some inspiration for patterns)

With regards to the text; consider imitating a particular font, or perhaps add serifs for that regal look. With what you've got I would make the X wider, the E center bar higher, and the L bottom bar longer but that's subjective.

Hope that's helpful, keep at it, looks good so far!

Thanks this is the edit I made. I used your font a bit and the middle swirl.
