Off Topic. Pixelation need a tutorials section?

on: October 01, 2006, 10:35:48 pm
Does anyone else here think that Pixelation needs a tutorial section, it would help out a lot of newcomers and pixel artists could show off what they know more. It would probably help me too.

Simply making a board wouldnt fill it with tutorials. Also, I doubt a tenth of this forum is qualified to make tutorials, if that.

Actually, I think hes right. A forum purely for instruction and bettering your self through learning and instruction. Maybe this could inspire some people to update what Tsugmo did way too many years ago.

Actually, there's something coming up that might be of interest, it's going to launch after the remastered challenge finishes...

Whether or not the wiki gets rebuilt, I think this is a good idea, and I suggested it to the other admins (I mentioned it before I saw this thread, coincidence!! Nonetheless, I think this is good...).

I always thought that posting work for CnC counted as bettering yourself through instruction =) Wouldn't a tutorial section amount to the same thing as the normal board, then, but with only beginners posting art there?

This has been debated about since swoo.net, someone always suggests this. Although I think tutorials are a great idea if you follow the challenges and activities people create on this forum, that is hands down, the best way to practice/learn technique.

Maybe if you're looking for something specific, you should ask, people here are friendly and helpful for the most part.

well, they need to let people make more challenges/activities, or at least have a formal way to apply

There is a formal way to apply: send a suggestion (preferably well thought-out) to any daijin, and they will bring it up to the other elected officials.  If it's a good idea, it will probalby see the light of day in the Challenges and Activities section within a few weeks/months.  Or, if you feel like being somewhat rebellious, you could follow in the footsteps of Scuba Steve, Faktablad, and Pawidge and just post a thread in the General Discussion forum.
Always remember: a preposition is not something you should end a sentence with.

We're working out a way to deregulate the activity creation process so everyone can post one. On the face of it, the solution ought to be simple enough: just let anybody create an activity. I'm probably going to suggest a postcount prerequisite, so people with some experience and sense will have that ability. It's not a completely free-for-all thing, but hopefully people can see the wisdom in that.

I think a tutorial section would be pretty pointless. Not only does the aforementioned Tutorial thread have enough guides and tools to help practically anyone, but the post+critique process is much more efficient.

That plus what Gil & Indigo said.

SMF has Karma, you could always use that instead of a post count. Just a thought though :)
