[Journal] Hermidraw's Pixel Art - Beginner

on: May 22, 2016, 04:27:53 pm
Hey there! I am just starting out exploring the field of pixel art. And I am a total beginner with it. I am just gonna be documenting my progress in this thread and learn things along the way. This is just something I am starting out for fun, but any critiques are always welcome. Thank You.

I have also been drawing seriously since 2014 June. If you google my name, you can find forums I post my sketches.

Trying to understand value with pixel art on a plane while the background is black. C&C is always appreciated, Thank You!

Perspective/Value [02]

I can't help but feel the position of the shadow is wrong. Any advice are always welcome.

The shadow is right if the light source is larger than the object. When in doubt, you can always calculate it, just like you calculated the perspective in the bottom right drawing. Shadows are affected by perspective too.

02, cube in the top left: one plane is facing a light source, while also being in shadow. Doesn't seem quite right.

Interesting to see value studies in pixelart. can't recall i've seen that being done before, keep it up  :y:

Good, good.

Keep it going. It's an interesting 'traditional' take on the subject.

Hey there, if you google "shadows in perspective"  there's a ton of informative and practical knowledge on the subject.

Not too sure if I will continue with this pixel art journal thing, originally I started it to practice patience + basic fundamentals, but I am gonna be doing hyper focus on design, and drawing on the side, so yeah.

Alias, something for today:

Shall see if I will continue with the pixel art journey or not. Since my main focus is Design/Illustration
