Greetings to everone in this community: artists, posters, mods, admins, and lurkers. I've been reading your forum now for a few days and I was quite taken with the sense of comraderie and benevolence in the name of pixelated art.

Please add my humble submission to your collection of avatars, if it pleases you.

At your service,

G.A.

Mirre, that's excellent :)

Hmm, the first post really needs updating by now.

The exercise

Reply #136 on: October 03, 2006, 12:08:14 am
Please accept my apologies.

This isn't an excuse, but an admission--the creation of this avatar was a first for me in two ways. It was my first attempt at doing computer graphics (I've been a long time oggler but have never tried it) and my first attempt at animation.

It took a very long time--in the process I learned how to use photoshop and image ready in a day using Adobe Help. I'm sure the more experienced among you could have knocked this out in a few hours. It took me much longer.

But it seems I didn't follow the guide--when I looked at the gifs I only noted that they were 128x128 and used an orange shaded background. I didn't realize that you were supposed to create it in 64x64.

They say first impressions last the longest, so I hope I haven't started off on the wrong foot with everyone.

Therefore, please accept my sincere apology.

At your service,

GA

HAHA, GA. no problems at all.

This was not an exercise to begin with, and there are no strict rules either. It's just that I did my avatar and people seemed to like it and made similar versions.
I like yours, reminds me of old dos games. Good stuff :)

There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.

Ptoing, glad you could enjoy my style. And Helm also, thank you if that comment was for me about "unique" style.

I see a great many designs here from obvious talents. I wonder what would result from a little collaboration?

Yes I was reffering to you. I was very impressed by how when color came on in the avatar animation, you handled the eye coloring and to degrees the lips and subtle chin variations of lightness, without wasting shades. Though the piece retains a somewhat rugged edge, not completely pixel-art-smooth which is very very rare that I find charming instead of thinking 'FIX FIX COMPLETE MAKE IT RIGHT'. So um, I guess I really like your avatar.
