[C + C] Genie

on: February 10, 2016, 02:03:45 am
So for my second ever pixel art attempt I tried to go for a genie who has morphed into the shape of his lamp. This was mainly a dithering exercise for me so sorry if that's a little overdone. Any constructive criticism / edits would be extremely helpful!

Thanks!

The shading is not right, the body is darkened on the opposite side of the cloud's shading, the cloud's shape needs to be a little connected to the lamp, to make it actually look like the genie is coming out from it. You shade it too much, especially the cloud, gas doesn't need that much shading. Try using lower res next time! I'm sure you'll be good at this! Keep on trying!  ;D

Don't dither is my advice. Dithering is an ancient technique, only used when you have a limited colour palette. Even then, it only works on a high resolution, otherwise the colours don't blend together.

The only reason you would use dithering now is to show texture, if you look at professional sprites, like for example pokemon. that's only thing it's used for.
