The Project:
Raygun Rocketship is a retro sci fi RPG.  Combining third person shooter mechanics and space combat, players will be able to fight aliens in ship combat, board enemy vessels, land on alien bases, and engage the enemy in in third person combat.  Each mission can have multiple solutions.  Bombard an enemy base from above or liberate the planet personally.  Destroy an enemy capitol ship or board and capture it.

In addition to combat, Raygun Rocketship offers and engaging story line that changes based on decisions the player makes.  Characters in the game will live or die depending on these choices.  The tone of the story is on the light hearted side with a healthy dose of humor.

The planned art style is cell shaded 3d, similar to Borderlands and Telltale’s Walking Dead.

The Progress:
Raygun Rocketship was originally planned as a side scrolling space combat game (SHMUP).  A demo of which has been shown off at various conventions.  The game got shelved as the team moved on to another project.  As that project wraps up, the team has dusted off Raygun, and plotted a new course.  Raygun is now in the preproduction phase.

The Position:
We’re looking for an Environmental Concept Artist to take level design documents and photo references and come up with amazing concepts for the modeling team to turn into amazing environments.  This will cover human and alien bases and ship interiors.  The Env Concept Artist will work closely with the level design team.  Interested parties can apply directly through our website www.stigmagames.com

The Payment:
This is a large project which will take two years at least.  Most projects of this nature end up fizzling out and going nowhere.  While the goal is that everyone gets back paid a fair amount based on their contributions of skill level, you should assume this will only be worth experience and something for the portfolio.  Stigma Games has been commissioned by a Fortune 100 company for a project which turned into money for the members of the team that worked on the project, so at least we can say that people have indeed been paid in the past when possible.

The Plan:
Raygun is being built in the Unity engine.  We will definitely target a PC Steam release and any console platforms that are financially possible.

The Posse:
Stigma Games is led by Brian Linville.  Brian has years of experience working professionally as a freelance game designer for small indie companies to large franchises like table top game Dungeons and Dragons.  While Brian’s day job is as a 3d artist for an architectural firm, he’s also worked professionally as a programmer for a telecommunications company and as a journalist for a popular music magazine.

Our Lead Artist is Jeff K. whose day job is working as the chair of the Art Department and main Art Professor at Cosumnes River College.

The rest of the team consists of three programmers, two modelers, and an animator, all working at our physical studio in Sacramento, California.  With the new year, we’ve decided to open things up to people outside the area interested in telecommuting.
