So you have me do hours of work and revisions and then say "It wasn't what i was looking for. Im not using it." after giving no indication of such intention.

It's bad practice not to pay your artist. I wouldn't want to do business like that.
He worked for you. If he delivered, but it was not what you were looking for, you have to do better research about your artists or accept that some jobs just fail.
However, and I can't stress this enough, not paying the artist because you decide that it's not for you is bad form.

To yaomon: I guess you'll have to tick that off as a learning experience. Always get a percentage of the payment beforehand. Good clients will pay that.

I usually do. I was (and am) working several other commissions at the time and figured it would just be a quick task and I wouldn't really care too much if this one went sour. I just want to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else, especially any new artists just getting into freelance.

Clearly you have bad business practice, but I see other artists have worked for you and and you have not paid, If you want a visual style, you must first specify the artist to work on what you order.

I working for you and it was a little hard to understand what you want because You never gave me to understand the visual style you wanted and then give me an example of a prior art already made.

Other art work

Be clear about what you want and pay the artist working for you, because as your time is valuable, that of an artist also has it.

Cheers
