I moved your thread to the General Discussion board (read what each forum is for before posting)

ProMotion is an excellent program for pixelling, so if you want to try the demo/purchase it go here: http://www.cosmigo.com/promotion/
Some others would suggest something like Graphics Gale and the like, but if you wanna focus on pixel art I would go with it.

And for adding an avatar, just go to your profile (just look at those buttons on top saying "Home" "Help" "Search" "Profile" "Logout") and modify your profile there.

Welcome to Pixelopolis

His secret? It really IS little circles and squares. We call it styledither. Don't do it like he does it, a lot of people have already, it's gotten old.

EDIT: BTW, Ptoing totally STOLE that technique from old french demoscene awesome artist X-man. It's sad but true! Nothing new under the sun!

Stole is a bit much, but yeh i was inspired.

esp by this.

On the Troll, first big image i made, it is pretty X-Man-ish but on following ones I made hollow circles and squares, which he does not do, but further than that i think this can not evolve.

this type of dithering has definately existed for almost as long as opaque media has.  all it is is using different sizes and densities of solid descriptive mark (as opposed to hatches or stippling)s to create transitions, no?
A mistake is a mistake.
The same mistake twice is a bad habit.
The same mistake three or more times is a motif.
