Person drawing practise

on: August 19, 2015, 10:01:19 pm
I tried to learn how to draw a person so I tried to make a little sketch.
I can't believe how much time I spend in making something so simple O:
But I would like not to start this completely wrong  so I would love to hear how to improve it!

I really wouldn't recommend learning to draw people via pixel art.

Take things back a bit with a paper and pencil and start doing gesture and anatomy studies. Preferably nude as clothes are another thing all together.

I would love to do that but I'm terrible(REALLY TERRIBLE) at drawing on paper.
I know its not a good idea but pixelart is the kind of art I can do best.
Even if my pixel art is bad , drawn in another kind of art would look worse.

I'm new to art in general but I took a liking in it so I would love to improve
And to be honest I don't want to learn how to draw on paper if it isn't necessary because I'm not even familiar with drawing basics.

But thanks for your comment anyways ^^

I started out only wanting to learn how to do pixel art as well.
Nearly every person who has spent time learning how to pixel art will tell you the same thing.

General art principles and skills are incredibly helpful. The time spent practicing drawing will naturally bleed over into direct pixel art development.

Hmm I will consider it at least...
I'm the kind of guy who just barely made it through art class.
Maybe I'm going to buy a book about it and practise a bit next holidays...

Gosh this sounds like a loooooot of work but I will try at least.

You can't really escape it. If you're terrible at drawing on paper, it translates to everything else you do.
Yes it's a lot of work but I'm sure you can do it.  :)

Talent = 5%

So yeah, if you're terrible at drawing on paper, you're maybe a few months of practice behind "people with awesome super talent!!1". Just put the effort in, and you'll be there in no time. I suggest looking at proko.com (no affiliation, I just really love that site).

Thank you for this website, seems useful
Just asking if anyone knows some other sites I can look at
to learn a little bit in between or something like that? ^^

Or maybe some books you can recommend?

As Gil mentioned, Proko pretty much covers everything that you need.

I wouldn't spend a lot of time looking for that magical book or quick 12 step program because it doesn't exist.(I'm looking at you thread in the general section)

If you can't tell from peoples responses in this thread, paper-pencil drawing is really the only way to go.(maybe tablet if you are comfortable enough)

Also to be completely honest, your pixel person is pretty terrible. Somehow I doubt you'd do worse if you translated that to paper and pencil.
Seriously, you need to drop your misgivings and just jump right in. Use Proko for guidance, start your own practice/studies from there, I guarantee in even just a week you'll notice an improvement.

At the end it all comes down to practice practice practice

I know it's terrible but trust me on paper it looks worse
I'm not looking for a magical book or a easy program to use I want to learn how to do it ^^
But I'll try and practice!
Thanks everyone! ^^
