[C+C] Some pixel art i found a while back ;-;

on: August 19, 2015, 06:59:24 am
So a few days ago, my friend sent me his pixel art, it was amazing. I just sat there with so much jealousy, but I was also proud :), it was good pixel art.
He told me to go on these forums and post some pixel art, unsure if I should go back to some pixel. So I found some old pixel art for a game project of mine, I have to be honest it doesn't look bad, I miss those days

Number 1 (to get things started) :

Number 2-10 (some other cool ones) :

These were created for a game that I was working on, long before I was any good. But now I'm decent at coding, and graphics.
So I need help, do I continue some pixel-arting, or do I focus on coding? Bear in mind that I do have a pixel-artist and we are working on some games!

(Sorry about a few modifications, I'm new here and there might be things that quickly evaporate out of my head)

Post the links to the image in the actual thread, a few people here are paranoid if it comes to click on links.
Plus we have a build in zooming funktion with which you can zoom in with left click and zoom out with ctrl and leftclick.
If you present your topic properly you mgiht get answers.

Don't post screenshots of zoomed in versions of your art, just post the art

To me it looks like you are using too much colors. But I'm not sure ^^

I was hoping someone would say that >;). I feel like limiting my self to a select few of colors is... Well... Limiting. lol.
We can see somewhere around tens of millions of colors, why limit to 4bit, 8 bit?

But then again I am typing crap, and it should be one's decision to use what colors they wish.

Also sorry everyone for this very late post.
I am doing some game development, time is sparse.

This is the corner stone of the pixel medium, actually. We are free from color constraint most of the time, but we decide to limit the number of colours for artistical and practical reasons:
 - it allows us to focus on clusters and create readable details;
 - it allows us to animate things;
 - it allows us to bring homogeneity to a piece.

I think you will find many of the "treasure chest" threads feature art with limited palettes.

Even if we can see 10 million colors, the brain still simplifies that and doesn't keep track of every single color you see unless you're intentionally comparing them.
What matters more is the relationship between colors rather than the amount.

Not to mention it's much easier to work with less colors, you get so much clearer shapes, easier for the brain to digest.

Also, by adding an excessive amount of noise, you're just removing the shape and making it harder to read.
