Fighting Stance

on: August 09, 2015, 07:08:30 am
Fighting Stance i've been working on.  Mainly need help on the initial stance, not the standing frame but the fighting stance frame ( I just added the standing frame for reference and to show the transition).  Animation is just quick and yet to be polished more.

Hey Les,

It's easy—you just have to foreshorten. Make sure it's clear one leg is coming forward and the other is receding.

Also, forgot to make shadow move... But that's a small change I will do.

Been working on a side stance but I'm having trouble with the weight distribution, can't see to get it right.  Keep in my shading is rough, I plan to do that once I am happier with the actual shape.  My reference is this http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/1237/qqwq.jpg or this http://www.angelfire.com/ma/jfjkd/images/onguard.jpg but the second one doesn't have the direction I've been working on.  Also this is the standing view.
Here is a newer version I've been working on:

Your 2nd link is down so going off the 1st image, if you want to stick closer to it the weight distribution is going to be like this:

Backwards lean with the rear leg holding more weight to balance it off.
IMO it's more dynamic than the forwards lean you had here which is pretty stiff and feels closed in/tile-restricted even when you have plenty of space there.

Here's an edit exaggerating that:

So you can see how it reads more like a specific stance at the small sprite size.
