I agree. Stick with the hands, but go with the arms in Fool's edit.

@Gil: Pitty about your thumb, I'd really like to see an edit from you :\.

I've been running back and forth from the mirror, and I have a few issues with Fool's edit on his left arm. Firstly, the sholder looks nice to me. I think his bicept should be tilted down more, I think you see more of the bottom of the bicept than the top on it? but looking at the wrist/hand I don't think this should be so. Finally I think the lower half of it looks like the arm is facing up, that highlight at the bottom really shows this illusion for me, and it doesn't seem to match up with the wrist/hand. But yea, again looking at the lower half of his arm, I think there is no "top lower arm muscle" defined, which should over shadow the lower half of the arm???.

Anyhows just my thoughts, and again... I'm no anatomy expert :\.

I'm working on a new rendition of the arm right now. I'm also trying to work on a portrait too. It'll all come later, when I edit this post.

Well, here it is; my portrait as a sketchy WIP. I know there's probably some anatomy issues, so please feel free to point them out. This is my first attempt at a figure this big, and even as a WIP i'm in love with it. I also posted another sprite with another arm. If it's still wrong tell me, but I'm more focused on my portrait now.

looking great! I could offer some criticism, the very bottom of the pant legs look a bit pillow shaded, or perhaps the color used has a bit too much contrast...
