Learning pixel art !

on: April 14, 2015, 02:04:25 pm
Hey guys !

I'm a 3D student who recently put his hands into pixel art and I love it.

I wanted to share some pieces I did for the past week and a half to get your opinion on it :)

Hope you like it.

This is good stuff! Love the first image  :)

You have lots of big and undefined pixel chunks you could give more shape too, the falling snow looks a bit rough too when it's so chunky.

For the 2nd animated character, it might look more natural if the chest plate moved too, right now it looks like the neck is extending when the head goes up.
Also the hand on the spear moves up and down while the spear is stationary, either move the spear or angle the arm slightly while keeping the hand steady.

Shouldn't this go to the animations subforum?

well you clearly can "art", so its a matter of refining your technique.
As Seiseki said, there are a lot of "brushy" strokes, that could help provide texture to the scene, since its such a small image, you wanna use all you can.
there are a few double pixels here and there that make my eye twitch a little, but again, thats a matter of cleaning up your drawing.
Keep at it! you'll get better and better
Image size doesn't matter! It's what you do with your pixels that counts!

Well, damn...  those look really good!  The snow falling does look a bit rough, but the way it moves is fluid..  I'm a bit forgiving of rough pixels or whatever if the animation is clean.  Good job!  Wish I had an actual critique for ya, but I'm just starting out myself... :P
