Horror Themed Iso-tiles

on: August 16, 2006, 05:28:48 pm
A collection of horror-themed iso-sets.
Started working on some graphics for a new game, but totally botched them up, they cannot be used.
I was pretty happy with them, so I thought I'd show em off before they gather dust on my HDD.

I know I haven't posted anything in ages.. sorry!

Haunted House : 1 hour 40 mins (I hate drawing houses)
Graveyard : 50 mins
Cabin in woods: 1 hour 15 mins

more editing (matching scales of all three sets) : 20 mins

I like much the colours, and the light is very well.

It sounds great but I don't see anything :(
Can you host them on another server or post external links to the pictures?

they remind me too much of thomas kinkade, which is a bad thing, because he redefined triteness in art.  i have just slightly less respect for him than i do for bob ross.

however, these are well done despite the unfortunate resemblence.  i particularly like the design of the leftmost house

Thanks for the comments everyone.

fil_razorback: Maybe wait a while.. I have no other place to upload them..

Kon: Nothing technically wrong, just design wise, they were supposed to look like film sets, ie. with matte backdrops, ropes, etc..

Adarias: I looked at kinkade's stuff, but I couldn't see any resemblance. What do you see?

Dude, whoa, hey...Bob Ross never done nothing wrong to no one.

As for your things, I have to agree that they're a bit bright and cheery color-wise to portray haunted.

i should have added "as an artist."  im sure he was a great guy....

the middle one doesnt remind me of kinkade so much, but the outer too have got the atmosphere, palette, and subject matter similar to a million and a half of his works

Really like em, the cabin looks a bit cosy for a horror movie tho :P

lovely work sir... :D

nice pallettes... distinct LACK of black... which makes a change... nice yummy blue shadows... I'd be curious as to how they were surplus to requirements... too many colors? tiles too big? wrong iso projection?

come on spill the beans...

I just noticed the right most house (the cabin) isnt completely head on straight facing...and because of this you can easily tell from the angled roof and along the face of the house.  personally I think you should redo it and keep it straight...have the roof at mixed angles looks really wierd to me...but thats just me.

Tinygiant: good idea! Certainly have to make that more creepier. When I get time that's something I gotta change.

Baccaman21: They weren't surplus to requirements, just that they supposed to look like film-sets (ie. with cameras, cardboard wall backdrops, fake blood etc), which I'm in the process of doing.
Joseph: I'm glad you can tell that the house isn't completely head on, (do you mean, it looks odd, as the pixels are skewed oddly or something?)

yeah, like if you look at the steps in front of the house you can easily tell.  it doesnt look bad or anything but I think it would look better if it was head on.  but your choice.
