Pixel Artists for a Roguelike Sidescroller Action RPG

on: December 20, 2014, 04:10:32 pm
Hello, I am Hepari, founder and producer of 'Lanze Games', an indie game dev team. (Twitter / Facebook / IndieDB)

We have released 'Sweets Run' for Android, back in November 2014.

Based on the experiences gathered from 'Sweets Run', we have started to work on a bigger project now.
And we would like to get help from some talented hands to work on the environment assets for the game.

Game Title: Pixel Princess Blitz (Provisional)
Release Date: TBD, 2015
Genre: Roguelike Sidescrolling Action RPG
Engine: Unity
Platform: Android, iOS, PC, Mac

Screenshots and artworks so far

Music:
Ethan Jeffrey, a very talented composer has agreed to write the entire soundtrack for the game.

Planned features:
  • Roguelike gameplay and story - Fight your own adventure!
  • Beautiful pixel-art graphics and illustrations
  • Kuruna: Your little avatar that is both cute and totally badassy
  • Face-paced sidescroller action
  • Randomized loots, limited inventory
  • Encounter random events with random outcomes
  • An epic story with twists and turns
  • 10+ endings: Your decisions really matter in the end
  • Modding-friendly
Budget Plan:

As soon as we have enough material to show to go public, we will launch a Kickstarter, or comparable crowd-funding attempts to raise money for the project.
You will have a fair share of that sum, depending on the works you have done, and efforts you have made.
This process will be fairly flexible, and everything will happen in a socially acceptable way.

Job:

Environments
The game world is devided in multiple sectors -
Calm forest, dark woods, dead swamps, caves, mountains, towns, fortresses...
I would need environmental assets to be beautifully made, in the style of the mock-up screenshot above.

Enemies and NPCs
  • Non-humanoid enemies. Basic monsters like wolves, bears... with moving and attacking motions.
  • Humanoid enemies. soldiers, bowmen, brutes with big shield, knightly footmen...
No face needed, since they wear helmets. Different color schemes will be applied to multiply the numbers.
These also need moving and attacking motions, depending on the enemy type.
  • Some NPCs if needed, like townsfolk, farmers, merchants...
Mainly to decorate the background and to be used in random events.
Most of these will be static, at the most, they would need an idling animation.
The style of these characters will need to match that of the main character as seen on the screenshot above.
If you could help out with these, that would be great too.

Items and Skill icons
It's the nature of a roguelike to feature many items. This one makes no exception.
Minimalistic item icons in bright colors are needed. If you think you are up to job, please apply.

Conclusion

All in all, this is a pretty ambitious project for which some great talents have already gathered, with a solid budget plan -
It has already a great graphic style that can be improved by dedicated pixel artists.
I want to have several pixel artists working together, to get this really done, within an acceptable timeframe.
If you are interested, please leave a reply, or send an email with your portfolio to "lanzegames (et) gmail.com".

These questions could guide you.

- How long have you been doing pixel arts?
- How long do you need to make a character in 64x64?
- Do you have experiences in making games?
- Do you use photoshop?
- Which of the assets would you like to focus on?
   -(Environment, NPCs...)
...

I will change the status to 'Ended' once the recruitment is over. Until then, please keep applying. If you have questions, simply reply to this post.
