Self-Inspired Character

on: August 09, 2006, 06:24:05 pm
The lineart started out looking as me, but I added a longer beard, and cool expression for a more badass character.

Which one of the above two has better lips?

The ratings can remain in the place for ratings, and the critique can remain in the place for critique. It's nice that we're all using both services, and Pixel Joint is awesome, but please don't ask people to rate you, here.

i think you should maximize your use of aa. you have a good amount of colors and you could make everything much more refined and smooth.
for the lips, i would just get rid of the sides of the upper lip and make the sides of the lower lip less defined.

btw, when drawing lips remember that the top lip looks darker and the bottom lighter because of the way they are angled

Okay, how's this, I made it smoother like Ryumaru suggested and I think I've made the lips better.

why does light hit the top of your shoulder, but not the tp of your head?  the light source would have to be hovering just beside your cheek for this to happen.  is that whay you ment?
A mistake is a mistake.
The same mistake twice is a bad habit.
The same mistake three or more times is a motif.

I meant for the light source to be coming from the lower right, I'll fix the shoulder shading.  One sec.

EDIT:  How's this:

i like the look of this, except.. it looks like youre holding on to how you draw lips as a kid, I remember drawing lips as if theyre just drawn on the face, youve just got to get used to drawing lips with some depth to them.. so I had a quick go at the lips, I think it turned out pretty well:

keep up the good work

if the lightsource is where you say it is, maybe a bit of upped contrast?

lots of outline and aa tweaks. Look in zoom and in comparison.
