Well, firstly it's important to understand that Snake has artistic knowledge that goes beyond pixel art. He understands the structure of what he's drawing, and the way light works with it, on internalized, instinctual level. Trying to emulate him without possessing this knowledge is like trying to swim without arms.

The best advice I could give you it too pick up a pencil and sketch book and go outside and look really hard at things. If you really want to stick with pixel art, and it's not the best place to learn, but maybe look at the way he has split the rocks into individual planes of colour in order to give them depth, and try to emulate that on your own.

You didn't even tried. You shouldn't expect that someone here will do it instead of you. Try (even if it doesn't look like you want), post it, and then you can receive constructive criticism.

There aren't any outlines in Snake's work. Paint in the forms as solids don't draw them in as lines.

As a beginner, this is waaaaaaay to large a piece to work on. It is imperative that you practice on small pieces first, and I mean small: 100x100px at most, preferably lower.

I'd consider tiling. That's a good way to make large mockups from a reasonable number of small pieces.

Also if as I suppose this is for a game, you must grab the basics before creating real assets if you want them to be somewhat consistent. Otherwise discouragement will ensue.

Paint with a brush larger than 1 pixel. Paint in blobs/blocks not lines.

And most importantly: don't post JPEGs!
Nobody's going to provide you with any edits if you don't provide them with a lossless base image (ie. PNG).

I'll use a larger brush but wont I get the same result if I use that one the only difference is the thicknes of the lines :S

isnt there a neat little trick I could use to make a decent start?

Don't be so stiff with those lines, listen to surt, just use bigger brush and try to draw, free your hand and later clean everything to make it look nice and polished.

I also have to agree with Manupix, this is way to big canvas for beginner. And tiling approach is best solution, cause it will be torture if you try to hand draw whole level.

Here's example of big brush drawing.
