Help with KOS portrait? Please? UPDATED 08-14

on: August 04, 2006, 09:44:56 pm
OK...I've been fighting with this portrait of and on for a while now, so I'm finally breaking down and asking for help...

Here's the sprite:

Here's where I'm at with the portrait...This is iteration 3 or 4:

The part that I'm concerned about at the moment is the fleshtone highlighting on the cheek...Thoughts? Suggestions? Anything??

Thanks y'all... :)

I think it looks great, its coming together nicely.
About the cheek which you are currently concerned about, I have made an edit to show you how i'd tackle it.
I would extend the bottom corner of the highlight down to the chin, but also notice the edit left of the eye and the chin.

Hey eghost, remember me? I was under the name zombahh when we were working on that game. Too bad it seems to have collapsed.
Anyway, about the portrait, it looks really good so far but I think the eyebrow needs a bit more AA and the eyes need a little less. I think the eyes and nose are a little bit lacking in definition. Other than that it's looking great and that huge spanner is awesome :P

Thanks for the suggestions guys!  :)

Here's the update:

I incorporated your shading suggestion Kon (thanks for the edit), and I tried to add more AA to the eyebrow zombahh...I'm reluctant to reduce the AA on the eyes, as it expresses what I'm looking for with this portrait...Though I will keep it in mind as I finish this thing up...

I'm currently a bit concerned that I have the lightsource screwed up...Again... :P
Comments and crits are appreciated as always!

EDIT:

I think I fixed my issue with the lightsource...Lemme know what ya think...

Another update...

I've got the hair roughed in now...And the question becomes, should I lose the light bits near the body and face?
EDIT: Updated with better hair shading...
Sprite Newest->Oldest

Just noticed I need to fix the neck highlight also... :(

looks good, keep going.
One thing which bothers me is the shirt though. It looks like velvet or something, because of the harsh contrast between light and dark. It doesn't look like this in the actualy fighting sprite, so I'm wondering if you'll be moveing more towards something similar to the fighting sprite.

i say lose the shine on the far eye.  Cliche is the only thing that tells you to put it there, and its making he look a bit like a bug.  rest of the stuff looks good, though the hair is nowhere near as smooth as the rest of anything, i trust you are going to keep working on it?

I've tried to reduce the contrast some by adding a color, bringing me up to 15+transparency(minus the full black and full white)...And I removed the eye highlight...Thanks again guys for the C&C... :)

The shirt is messed up man, You need to have a lighter ramp, because right now there is wayy too much contrast between the light and dark in the shirt. The hair and skin look great though.
And I am finally seeing that you were the one worth eating.

you dont have to change the ramp, just change the way you've used it.  either take up much more space with the lighter parts of the ramp, or, if you want it to be satin, or something that acts similarly to light, id place another light under the breasts were i you
