(C+C) Ivysaur

on: June 09, 2014, 08:47:35 pm
9 colours, based on SSBB appearance.

Trying to get back into pixel art, this is my first sprite in a while.
I've edited it until I couldn't see any mistakes, but I'm sure there are still improvements to be made.
Any feedback is appreciated.

Was curious to see what you were referencing.

I think the sprite would leave a better impression with stronger value contrasts... if the leaves were darker than the flower, and the flower darker than the body color... just like the refs I'm pulling from google images. Might increase your color count, sure, but I think it will be worth adding new colors

I personally like the unity that the reuse of the colors gives over the google search ivysaur.

Great use of planes to define the form. You might consider an extra skin color to round it off to 10 to act as a buffer between the sharp face-to-jaw color transition, but outside of that, and perhaps a little more hueshifting in the skin colors (some environmental light always reflects onto the skin, such as from the sun or dirt), I think you're all set.

Some quick edits to see if I'm understanding your suggestions.

Left: Colours taken directly from a reference. It's very "aggresive" currently, but is this the direction you were thinking of, Pix3M?

Right: Slightly adjusted the skin tones and quickly added a new colour in some areas. Again, is this the direction you were thinking of?
