[C&C]my first post: samurai-panda

on: August 20, 2014, 10:53:54 pm
Hi guys!
I'm really happy to make my first post on the board. I've been reading this forum for years and I finally made an account. Although I enjoy pixel art for quite some
time now, I would consider myself still a newbie. So I hope the feedback of you guys can help me improve.  :)

I had the idea to make somekind of cyber panda samurai, so I made this:

I was satisfied with the result, but when I tried to animate it, I failed. hard. I thought it would be easier, to go with a more detailed approach.
After numerous tries I came up with this:

I have mixed feelings about the result. Maybe something is odd about it, but I can't put my finger on it.

Now I would be glad to get some good advice & critique.

btw. sorry if my english sucks. I think I'm a bit rusty.  :-[

Everything looks good with the exception of the feet.
I don't presume to know how to fix them, however I feel that if there is an area that needs improvement it would be there.

My thought thoughts though, given the pose. Is that you could maybe bring in the feet together.

I must say that I like the smaller one better than the big one.

I am not sure why it would be harder to animate than the big one I would guess that it would be the other way around.

Why was it hard?

I guess it was just my lack of skill that made it difficult. Because of the small size of the spirte, the feet always ended up looking like a clump of pixels rather than feet.

Yeah I agree I also struggle with feet.

I do not think you need to outline the feet like that. that is a waste of a lot of space. Instead you could perhaps try to give him claws or something.

Sorry, perhaps you are more interested in the big piece I just liked the simplicity of the small one.  I also think you need to work a bit more on the shading on both pieces to give it some shape. Have you decided on a light source? it is a little bit unclear on both pieces.
