Getting a handle on the art style for my game...

I still have a lot of difficulty on non-stiff poses, but I've come too far now to stop improving. <'3

It's hair, but it's also subtly symbolic of the crow (which in turn symbolizes bad luck)! I'm relieved you could see it. I quite like your animation! It's got good force behind the punches. <'3

EDIT: Changed the outfit,

It's somehow odd to see actual pixel art in the daily sketch thread ;)

What do your preparatory sketches look like, Ashe? (re:stiffness)

Can I suggest using no aa on the white edge of the top? IMO AA adds a roundness that fights the impression of cloth; rendering of cloth in King of Fighters sprites provides some good examples here.

Overall style reminds me of Breath of Fire.

..
92 sketches in the last 12 days. Well, 92 pages, probably about 92*[average=2] = 184 drawings, 1.5Gb of PNGs. Hmm. This is getting kind of crazy, I need an additional backup system.

Something relatively technical for today:

(i know the viewer's L/R -> object's R/L transition can be confusing, but it really helps me to not put people's hands on backwards ;)

Sketches from imagination and figure are from reference, some modified:

@Wolfenoctis:
Interesting idea -- like collision detection with invisible volumes. Are those more or less straight copies with the people removed, or significant adaptations?

---

Not sure if this is Sketch or OT-thread material, but thought I should share this exercise as it's been very helpful to me:

Started because I wanted to be able to think in cm, rather than a indefinite mix of cm, inches, and feet, and "measure with my eye" reasonably accurately. Expected sideeffect of better ability to draw and space objects in perspective

Basically: Get tape measure. Guess all the important dimensions of something, check the actual measurements, calculate the degree of error. Repeat. Aiming for <15% error in all dimensions, and selecting objects with a wide range of dimensions.

Was very effective. Currently using the length of my palm as my main unit (9cm) -- cause it's easy to imagine putting my hand on something and then alternating hands to measure out the dimensions. Probably need a few additional standards for smaller or bigger things - 180cm my height, 1.5cm the width of my index finger.

Errata:
* Ignore the 'exponential measurement' comment; I wasn't able to make that work.
