I don't know what I've done.

If you look at it enough it looks like she's smashing drums while ice skating. WHAT HAS BEEN SEEN.
I clearly need more frames, some flesh and a darker pencil; but I definitely learned stuff already, whoop!

Oh I'm not actually supposed to be focusing on clarity - it just makes things take longer. I get carried away sometimes though.
Hmm? I didn't necessarily mean 'reproducing the source image accurately'. You can get clarity by simplifying line and tone too.

That said, I only used two pencils on one piece if I remember correctly. I think I used my H or 2H for the lines and then went over those lines and did my shading in one of my heavier Bs (I marked the sketch as being 2H + 3B or whatever) and it made quite a massive difference. It's a lot easier to draw the lines with the harder pencils and obviously shading with blacks is the best for that sweet contrast.
Ah. That's pretty much what I was going for; many of your drawings remind me of my old drawings, which had some kind of 'coarse' characteristic which betrayed that they were done all with one grade. Working with a harder pencil (2h) helped pinpoint and eliminate the construction/design problems that led to that.

Well, thanks for reminding me about using different pencil grades on the same image, Ai. xD

Yeah, that has a good line quality + solidity, though the light is very diffuse (common problem with studio photos, they don't show form clearly due to excessive number of fill lights).

"H LSB"? I guess I should be reading that "H & 5B"?

Have you tried charcoal? It's commonly regarded as good for tone studies AFAIK, and my own experiences certainly back that up (very fast and 'solid feeling').

Your newer post reminds me of this page from Bridgman.

EDIT: fixed quoting mess up

If you insist on being pessimistic about your own abilities, consider also being pessimistic about the accuracy of that pessimistic judgement.

Ah, in that case I guess I do want clarity!
Yeah H & 5B - gotta forgive my handwriting. :P
I have never tried charcoal. I only have more than an HB pencil because someone bought it for me for my birthday.

I have never done the art thing, so you really have to treat me like a primary school kid. :-X

And just when you thought I'd done enough art today, WABAM:

Yes, yes the focus isn't consistent. I'll get better. :(

First piece of original drawing I've done it blooming ages.

Just making a note for those who don't read the Off-Topic thread: Crow's just added imgur album embed support. You can see what it looks like over there,

and embed albums in a similar way to youtube videors -- specify their album id, like:
Code: [Select]
[imgur]6ytgw[/imgur]

FWIW I requested this feature on the basis of it being useful for anyone who wants to post multiple related images here. I think it should eventually get an icon, so that it's not a hidden feature.. but I'm not sure what can represent an album legibly at 16x16px.

...
EDIT:
I have proposed this icon:

for a start.

Wow, nice skulls.

Man, Wolf, when are you going to draw a full piece? I'm really looking forward to what you'll produce!

I wanted to do animation today, but couldn't get a pose I liked so instead I spent my time drawing up a bunch of poses!

The character is supposed to be trying to stay strong while carrying the burdens of others. I could go into more, but I will not bore you all. I tried to get a pose that has despair, courage and solemnity in it. I wanted a very static pose, but I added some over expressive poses just to get a feel for the feelings they provoked.
I am pretty happy with the last pose for now (but hey I might change my mind), so hopefully I'll get to animating tomorrow instead!
