More tileset stuff, yay!

An actual mockup now that I have enough pieces:

I feel this amplifies the differences in my pieces and they all need a little work. The long grass is obviously very WIP and the short grass is probably just a placeholder, but at least I have quite a pretty scene (despite being a little disjointed). May start a thread soon actually, to get some help with this. Think I'll make a character and animal first though; that gives me something to do tomorrow and Monday.

Value practice thing:

Well this is less embarrassing, but still pretty far off.
I imagine 100 more of these though and I'll know my values pretty well.

Squint more.

I've had lots of time today.

Started working on a chicken (because I am just making versions of every other sprite in harvest moon already, so I may as well):

I kind of have everything at the same perspective now, although looking at some other games people tend not to be super obsessed with consistent perspective at this resolution.

Trying to come up with clothing designs that allow for tasteful side/underboob:

Yes her left arm is wicked deformed - whatevs. The focus point should be the breasts.
Some residual lineart in there as well, sorry.

Attempt while purposefully defocusing my eyes:

I feel like it came out a lot better. My main focus was on the mountains. I originally took a massive brush and just went over the image at something like 25% zoom while squinting, but that left a lot to be desired, so i zoomed back to 100%, shrunk my brush a bit and touched up the mountain ranges (and some on the clouds and trees, but that's not well done at all).
Should I not have done that rather?

That is fine. I would limit yourself to 5 values. It makes you focus more on how a composition is created and it's shapes designed. Try doing more work with the lasso tool and getting a better attempt at reproducing the shapes you're seeing.
In this one you made the light hitting the edges of the mountain bright enough. They make up a small amount of the picture, but are very important in describing the lighting conditions of the scene.

seems like lots of interesting stuff was going on the last days.
I am back from vacations.
crow, you were right.

Doing more anatomy studies before I pop off to driver's ed! This will be with a German shepherd. Such a pretty dog. <3 And so much fun to work with.

Improvement, yes? I'm testing out techniques to learn human anatomy.
The reference was also saved to my computer a long time ago (I stumbled across it while cleaning out my drive) so I decided to draw from it. No clue where it came from..

Nice work Lark, that's some improvement right there.
Probo that's strangely awesome. I cannot remove my eyes from it.

Also forgot to mention before, but that's really cool, Surt. I like the restrictions you applied. You going forward with that?

Thanks for all the help Ryu; done today's:

Got carried away, but I started it with only a massive brush at least. I did manage to stick to 5 colours though!
I probably would have done more, but I just forced myself to finish.

This also took me much longer than it should have though, so no pixels. Gonna make a thread anyways. Probably help some duders.
