Animation Challenge #2 (now with 100% more #3!)

on: July 14, 2006, 04:12:13 am
Alrighty, I decided to post this in a new topic, per Lick's suggestion, seems a bit more efficent to split them up that way.
I pulled this topic out of my hat, but I'll be depending on you to keep interesting ones coming!

Topic: "Small creature struggles to wield heavy weapon."
Intended to be an attack animation.
Silhouette or rendered, if you so desire.
64 x 48 pixels maximum.
10 frames maximum.

Unless anyone has any objections, y'all can just PM me any ideas you've got and I'll post them every Sunday and every Wednesday in the order I get them. I've got guaranteed free time in the evenings on those days so there shouldn't be any problems.

here's something generic, I couldn't think of anything really exotic at the moment.

(Edit: I see to be having some host problems, switched this to photobucket.)

I was originally thinking of two winged pixies working in tandem to fly a shotgun around, but it didn't work out very well.

Pawige.  That is pretty good.  Can't figure out what the creature is but good anyway.
I would like to see some recoil.
Back from hiatus, just remembered how excellent this community is at forming technique in a fledgeling artist of any kind.

EDIT: Whoops. Guess mine's not so much an attack or a struggle. I just kept 'little guy with large, heavy weapon' in mind as I pixelled. Oh well.

Comments:

1) Alex - Nice sense of weight and general flow. Watch the wiggles in his limbs (his legs should just make 1 slow shift per action rather than back and forth) and it probably needs 1 frame of follow-through once he's released the box. Otherwise quite spiffy.
2) Pawige - Nice gun bounce and I like the little hop he does as it fires. Is he meant to struggle with the trigger or wait and then tug? If you're going for a struggle, a little stagger would enhance it. He could use 1 additional frame once he's up there aiming (very snap-to right now) and you might make his slide into the firing position a little slower (with the legs) but otherwise pretty perfect.
3) Xion - Really nice mallet swing and bounce on the connect. The leg position is also pretty cool, especially given how simple the legs are (nice knees). You might make his body stretching a little more dramatic to emphasize the swing, and his head jerks back in one frame, but that's about it.

Okay, so the turnout wasn't too great this time around (much thanks though, to those who participated, nice work all around!), and no one PMed me any ideas, so I didn't figure #3 really warranted its own thread.

Topic: "Aiming at the spittoon across the room, he expectorates with great gusto."
Portrait/Facial animation.
Lineart or rendered.
48 x 48 pixels or larger.
No frame limit this time, so go nuts!.

3 days isn't that long. You should probably wait at least a week in between each.
