Stout the destroyer

on: July 07, 2006, 05:11:32 pm
his name is Stout.  Probably 2 hours spent on this.  I need more portfolio material.  I'm not exactly pleased with it.  It looks pretty amateur. and i dont think i can fix that short of just scrapping the entire thing.  anyway, c+c

helm, this one is for you since i know how much you love sickly-over-muscley men in little clothing.

shows the progress plus an alternate pallette

Nice one, I think he looks good!  The outline around the outside of the abs looks a little extreme to me, given that there is almost no definition in between the individual muscles there, i think you could do well to smooth that section out a bit.  Also, I'd push the sword design some - maybe its just from Advent Children but I'd rather this guy had something a little less Buster Sword-y.  Very nice start, I would not abandon this - the legs, face and shoulders are all very strong I think.

updated the pallette after seeing an edit by Alex.  Basically it's just a mixture of the colours from the redish guy for the darker skin tones and the peachish colours for the lighter skin tones.

it's interesting how the last two versions of Stout are like looking at a St0ven pallette vs a Kon pallette.

updated the image above as well

AdamAtomic:
thanks for the crit. I'll play around with it.

Andy Tran:
thanks man. and i was thinkin about animating him.  It'd sure help my portfolio a bit.

I think a club better suits him more than a sword, but great work none-the-less.

put some of the blue from the cloth into the sword, will make it visually more interesting imo.

Have you tried messing with the loincloth so it doesn't look perfectly straight at the bottom?

i think  you need improve the sword seems plastic. The craracter is very well defined etc.. but the sword have minus quality for my, i think you need add more shini os detail in the sword. How for example the reflection of his head in the sword :)

Nice edit Matriax. The metal will look better if it has a shine. You got good color choice and contrast. Another thing you should do is reduce the number of tones for skin tones. You're using too many colors for the skin tones, maybe take 1 or 2 colors down. That will make it better. Hope that helps. I also have an edit that hopefully it can sparkle an idea.

Hmmm, I think it looks a bit unfinished like that.
