My first animation (dragon) - need advices

Hi. I have made an animation of dragon wing.

Assumption:
- only six frames
- figure on the dragon neck has to be still and has to be always visible

What's style to be used for final result? Paint? Pixel art?

Size is quite big. Can you not reduce it?

Is the dragon flying? If so, he's in a seated pose. If flying, his tale ought to be extended out, moving in a sin wave motion.

I'm going to make it in vectors. The tail is still and curved because if it was spread it will take too much space. It is true that spread tail looks better, but in this particular case I try to avoid it.

Oh ok. Vector removes the issue of scale, so there ya go.

Are you confined to the width of the image you've posted then? If so, you might want to consider just making the whole thing smaller. I don't see how you'll ever get a dragon flying through the air with a curled up tail to ever look anything other than very unnatural.

I second the size reduction suggestion. It allow for both a more natural tail pose and the option to increase the size of the wings, which are a tad small in my opinion--not too bad, but they should ideally look like they could support both the weight of the dragon and its rider. The animation itself is pretty smooth for only six frames. For added realism I would use videos of bats in flight as reference. Obviously the way a dragon moves and carries itself will be slightly different but you can still derive inspiration.

Here is a good example.

Wow, look at Bart go! Cool vid.
Though I doubt the need for such anatomical precision, using a bat for dragon animating ref is pretty darn smart.
And don't forget about rotoscoping. If you find a near perfect animation match for what you want, you might trace the frames to get your lines right, just like the pro's do (or did anyway, 3D is kinda takin' over).
