My pixels were stolen! Yay!

on: May 14, 2013, 08:00:57 pm
Hi everyone,

Is there any way to find old posts from before the board was wiped years ago? I used to go by colinsick and a bunch of my pixels were taken and used in a game in the appstore! Yay!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiyqHadm1qQ

They even took Mr T!
Noooo! Not Mr T!

I'm both flattered, because I'm awesome, and embarrassed, because they're really really old. Some of the graphics are mine, some are ripped direct from Technos, some are unknown. So yeah, is there any way to find old posts? Who knows, I may have given someone permission 10 years ago?

Grats :)
It's both awesome and sucks at the same time.

The sucky part is someone else receiving both money and credit for the work.

Someone actually contacted me about some old stuff I had posted here, but they asked for my permission to use it, so there was nothing wrong about it.
At first I was about to say "Noo! That stuff is old and embarrassing.." but then I thought, well if it's good enough for someone to wanna use it, why not, I'm not using it anyways.

Hunting with google reveals I gave a whole bunch of art away in 2008.

So, false alarm. Just a lack of memory. Still, some freelancer is selling my pixels (and Technos' and who knows who else) as his own.

I guess.  It still pains me to see some of that moving around, especially some of it being edited so badly. There was a lot of better stuff in that package. I assume it's being saved to be sold to someone else! I'll try to get the name of the scumbag.

Welcome to the club, a bunch of graphics from my [free] Minecraft Texture pack were ripped and put into some indie game on Xbox Live.

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Block-World/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258550bb1

I reported the game but nothing was ever done about it. Also another game floating around the internet also stealing(and selling) my Minecraft graphics:

http://buildanddefend.com/

I have contacted and they said they would remove the graphics(a year or two ago) and again, nothing ever happened. I don't think there is anything small developers like ourselves can do in these instances, while other people profit off of theft :/

Did you contact microsoft directly?
Who'd think they would ever support copyright theft :/

As for the other game, try reporting them on their indiedb site by messaging an admin.

I wonder what they would say if you demanded compensation :)

There is a function to report games on the Indie marketplace so that's what I did, which amounted to nil. I'm not sure how to escalate the issue beyond that, nor if it's even possible with Microsoft :( The problem is I don't think there's much moderation on the indie marketplace for Live as it's mostly community submitted games. Still, you think they'd deal with copyright issues more seriously because of this.

Aye, when I first contacted them they weren't part of any db or rankings so I suppose I could revisit that issue. Thanks for the link :)

Yeah, I think you gotta approach them through other channels. Like directly calling or emailing.
