Hi,

in gamemaker 8 there is a sprite editor, where you can add some animations to a sprite, for example you can make it shrink in x frames, or become invisible

that's very very very useful, and so I wonder if there are others tools like this available with more options ? i can't find any (maybe i'm using the wrong keywords)
By tools i mean programs or scripts for gimp, or plugins or no idea lol

Thank you

Try Flash and After Effects.

pixel pd is right on the money there with flash and AE, and learning both is a great idea anyway.

What exactly do you want to do with them? do you want to make them move without drawing new frames? because that's entirely possible and AE even  has functionality that doesnt require you to make joints. http://ae.tutsplus.com/tutorials/workflow/breath-of-life-series-day-1/

Also, there's a program that does joint based animation and recently got kickstarted http://brashmonkey.com/spriter.htm still in free beta as far as I know.

I don't want a skeleton tool, i'd like something where you can transform a non animated picture into something animated with Special Effects, like the picture desintegrating itself, burning, or i don't know anything (fade to color, change color gradually)...
you put the sprite, you specify the number of frames for an effect, then it does it automatically for you.
It's cheap but still useful.

I wanted to show an example but gamemaker sprite file extension is gmspl -_-'

EDIT : can't find pixel pd, but i think after effects is the kind of program i need, but it's not free, right ?

When Conceit said "Pixel pd" he was referring to the post author above him, Pixel Piledriver.

Just thought I'd clear the air on that issue.

And no, after effects is another adobe creative suite application so it is not free. Actually, scratch that, as I recently learned that the CS2 software is offered at no cost*, if you don't mind using 7+ year old versions of the software.
