Wadsworth Zane

on: March 26, 2013, 03:30:15 am
Making some fan art for Broodhollow. Overall I'm pretty happy with the model and the texture, but there's one thing bugging me like crazy.

That goddamn bandage. There has got to be a better way to texture it, but at this resolution it's all ugly and grid-showing. I've tried antialiasing it, but that tends not to work so well for me when pixels are wrapped around a model.  :-X

I'm considering just giving in and rotating it to be in line with the grid so I don't have these issues, but I figured I'd ask around here for advice first. Any takers?  ;D

Many it's just the picture, but that texture is really low resolution. :0

It also looks weird because you made one of the band aids longer.. The one below.
You could always add the band aids as a separate 3d model and place it just above the skin. Otherwise I think the solution you suggested would work.

Probably should've mentioned, the texture is pixel art, so it's pretty small. I could always re-do the unwrap to give the face more area, but that would sort of defeat the purpose of having it look "retro."

Thanks, I also noticed mine was larger overall and changed it. The size isn't always consistent (being cartoony and all) but mine was definitely off by a bit.

I considered doing it as a separate model as well, but I want to be able to change the expressions/details with just a texture swap. :/

Haha I know it's only been a bit since I posted this topic but I've been struggling with this for a while now, I think I'll just give in and straighten it.

Er, any other crits are welcome though! xD

Why wouldn't you be able to do that just because the band aid is separate?

Also, I didn't know you meant making it straight like that, I thought you were talking about twisting the faces after straightening the texture in the UV map?

It's just because your drew the lines incorrectly.

I didn't draw the perspective you wanted to let you do the required work and learn yourself.

Finished! Unless I use this for anything, 'cause I may have to re-rig him...

@Tim, at your advice I gave the bandage another shot, but with no satisfying results. Defaulted to the rotated UV this time, though I may have to take another crack at it if I need that region of the head for some other detail later. >>

Haha yeah, I about had a heart attack when I saw mine up there. He actually shared it on twitter a few months ago too, which resulted in the most hits my blog has ever gotten. Suddenly having an audience is the weirdest feeling...  :-[

also I feel kind of self-conscious because I've since found a much better way to do the outlines... :x
